Joyous celebration with Kia invigorates 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™

Everyone who got into the game was a winner!

The 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia successfully came to a close with France lifting its second World Cup trophy after a thrilling final match with Croatia. Win or lose, all 32 teams played at full strength and their effort channeled the support of the crowd into indescribable passion.

The past month in Russia was indeed full of surprises, as Kia had the chance to celebrate this mega sporting event and share its passion for football with fans all over the world.

As an official automotive partner of FIFA, Kia Motors proudly supported this prestigious event, assisting in the smooth day-to-day operation of national football teams, referees and officials during the 64-match tournament.

With the aim to stage an unforgettable championship event, Kia supplied a 424-strong fleet of vehicles, including the K900SorentoSportage and Ceed, to ensure safe and efficient transportation on tournament grounds. In the lead up to the kick-off, the vehicle handover ceremony took place at the Luzhniki Stadium in the Russian capital of Moscow to commemorate Kia’s contribution to the most celebrated football competition in the world.

In the build-up to the FIFA World Cup, Kia successfully brought back its globally popular five-a-side amateur football tournament, ‘Kia Champ into the Arena’. Competing for the ultimate glory of being crowned global champions, 16 five-a-side teams from across the globe were selected through regional tournaments and made it to Russia to represent their country in the Kia Champ into the Arena World Finals.

 

All the finalists were invited to attend a Round of 16 match in the main tournament and the winning team proudly received the trophy from Cesc Fabregas, 2010 FIFA World Cup-Winner and Spanish legend, who is also known as the Kia Champ into the Arena Ambassador.

Another area of Kia’s sponsorship activities for the event entailed an international search for Kia Official Match Ball Carriers. 64 children from all over the world were selected for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet their heroes and open the matches by delivering the official match ball to the field.

Kia also promoted a ‘Lucky Drive to Russia’ lottery, giving anyone visiting a Kia showroom in 30 different countries the chance to enter a prize draw for World Cup tickets and a cultural experience tour of the host country.

The heart-pounding journey in Russia has come to an end, but Kia’s passion for football never ends. We will continue to be deeply committed to supporting and furthering international football events, and more of Kia’s one-of-a-kind events are on the way.
